Fall 2006
December 18, 2006
- Over the past week we have experienced days with tons of
schoolies while other days have been capped off with big
bluefish & stripers. The light winds and warm temperatures
have been unbeatable for mid-December.

December 13, 2006
- The cows have come home! We found a school of big fish
on Tuesday and worked them all day, landing countless fat fish.
The great thing was that we had them to ourselves for a good
portion of the day. The fish were up and down, but at
times the big hogs were exploding on bait at the surface.
Chances are good that we will be tangling with a lot of trophy
fish during the next four weeks!

December 8, 2006
- Before this recent cold snap we spent some time kayak and wade
fishing the shallows and were rewarded with numerous small
stripers and even a late season puppy drum. Fishing the
lights of the HRBT has been hot for schoolie stripers. The
birds have been active anywhere from Thimble Shoals to the CBBT
during the day. The fish are fat and hard fighting in this
cooler water!

November 20, 2006
- We finished up the Middle Peninsula season last week with some
beautiful marsh backcountry fishing. For the rest of the
fall and winter, we will be fishing exclusively out of my new
Jones Brothers boat in Hampton. The hot fishing we are
experiencing out of Hampton should really get smokin' as more
large fish move into the area. Today, we had birds and
breaking fish from Ocean View all the way past the 2nd Island of
the CBBT. Non-stop action on fly & light tackle!

November 6, 2006
- There are still plenty of striped bass to be had under the
birds as well as in the shallows of the Middle Peninsula.
Fishing out of Hampton has been great under the lights of the
HRBT. The CBBT is producing stripers and blues around the
bridge pilings and rock islands. The big boys should be
here soon, so it's time to break out the "long johns" and go get
'um!

October 27, 2006
- High winds have kept the boats at the dock of late. We
have been able to sneak out between blows and tie into some
fish. Schools of breaking fish have been abundant early
and late in the day off Gwynns Island and the mouth of the
Rappahannock. It has been fun watching striped bass blast
topwater flies and plugs when they are in a feeding frenzy.
Still finding a plenty stripers inshore as well as a few specks.

October 17, 2006
- It will be mainly striped bass from here on out as the puppy
drum and speckled trout make their migration south. We'll
have the stripers in the shallows until mid-November on the
Middle Peninsula as well as some breaking fish under the birds.
After that, we will be fishing out of Hampton exclusively for
the rest of the winter. Hampton fishing is really starting
to heat up now with the cooler temperatures. There is the
possibility of 100+ fish nights under the lights of the HRBT.
Everyone should try this at least once, because it is quite a
sight seeing the stripers stacked up along the light line.
Day time fishing will continue to improve as the stripers school
up. We will be fishing the structure of the CBBT and
looking for blitzing fish in the open waters of the lower bay.
Late fall and winter is your best shot at that trophy striper!

October 5, 2006
- We've fished the eel grass flats and sod marsh banks of the
Northern Neck. The main catch as been striped bass with a
few specks mixed in. Fishing the MMBT out of Hampton has
produced some nice bluefish. All we need now is some good
weather... think light winds!

September 28, 2006
- Fishing has been
"hit-n-miss" lately with some great days and some slower ones.
The Middle Peninsula is producing stripers, specks, blues,
flounder and
small pups. Out of Hampton, we are finding small blues and schoolie stripers at night under the lights of the HRBT.
October is almost here.... my favorite month of the year!

September 13, 2006
- Beautiful sunrise this
morning and much of the same fishing with fast action on quality
specks and stripers plus small puppy drum around shallow water
structure. We lost the two biggest fish of the day when we
couldn't slow them down from reaching the barnacle encrusted
pilings. Productive baits were hi-tie bunker & bead chain clousers on the fly rod. Live bunker and 3" Gotcha
plastic shad on 1/8oz heads with the spinning rod. I don't
think it really mattered what you threw at the fish today!

September 9. 2006 - Slipped
out at dawn and fished the shallows of the Piankatank. A
great time was had landing stripers, pups, & specks. We were
doing some live chumming with bunker and had the fish busting
everywhere. Had several fish on topwater Bizurk Bunker flies.
Notice the picture of the pup with the fat gut... he had just
downed a couple bunker. Dang I love the shallows this time of
year! Things should only get better as fall approaches.
