- Fishing isn't much fun in the cold, so I try not to run charters when highs are in the 30's. With all the frigid weather, this means that I haven't been fishing much! We have to get back to more mild weather someday and when we do, I'm itching to hit the water. The Elizabeth River fishery runs through March.I’m in the process of updating my website with more fishing tutorials and fly tying recipes. I’ve completed a webpage dedicated to tying the Blasphemy Baitfish for those of you inquiring about making a few on your own. You can find additional winter reading in the Articles & Lessons section. A few recent updates include – Fish Better With Braid, Sunscreens to Avoid, It’s in the Net, Give Your Reel a Helping Hand, The Straight Line Connection plus several additions to the Fly Tying section. I hope to put up a couple more light tackle tutorials in the coming weeks.
Here's a list of events that I have been invited to in the coming weeks. I hope to see you there!
Saltwater Sportsman National Seminar Series, January 22nd, VA Beach: According to Saltwater Sportsman magazine, this is the nation’s most popular and longest running saltwater fishing seminar series. Myself and several regional experts will discuss a variety of fishing tactics.
Country Club of Virginia, January 26th, Richmond: At this premier country club, I will be giving a fireside chat about saltwater fly fishing opportunities in Virginia.
Tiefest, February 12th, Kent Narrows: This is hands down the best fly fishing gathering on the Mid-Atlantic. It’s a grassroots event that is totally free to the public. Come meet the legends like Lefty, Clouser, Popovics and many others. I’ll be there whipping up flies and shooting the breeze.
Bass Pro Shops, February 26th, Richmond: I will make an appearance from 11AM-4PM. Feel free to stop by to get one-on-one instruction. I will be giving a presentation at 1PM on fly fishing the Chesapeake Bay.

- Happy New Year! Even though it was the second coldest December in history for Hampton Roads, we wrapped up the 2010 season catching speckled trout on fly and light tackle with snow on the ground. January is the best month for specks on the Elizabeth River, so give me a ring if you're looking for a cure to cabin fever and the winter blues!
