Instructions
-
Tie in 20# mono along the bend of the hook to be used as a
looped weedguard.
-
Create the walking legs by palmering a neck hackle at the
bend in the hook shank
-
Create feelers by adding a small clump of bucktail on top of
the palmered neck hackle.
-
Add the mono eyes so that they extend off the rear of the
hook.
-
Add the antennae by tying in two strands of krystal lash.
-
Cut the carapace for the shrimp fly out of sheet foam. The
sheet foam carapace should include and tail and pointed head
to replicate the shape of a shrimp. The total length should
allow for the tail to extend off from the hook eye and the
head to extend off from the rear of the hook.
-
For the underbody of the fly, tie in medium chenille at the
rear of the hook (too be wrapped forward later).
-
For the swimming legs of the fly, tie in a neck hackle at
the rear of the hook (to be palmered later)
-
Tie in the foam carapace at the rear of the hook.
-
Wrap the chenille and neck hackle forward and secure the
foam carapace with wraps of thread along the way to create
the segmented body of the shrimp. Cut and secure the
chenille and neck hackle once the hook eye is reached.
-
Tie in lead dumbell at the hook eye.
-
At the hook eye, tie in the loose end of mono to complete
the looped weedguard.
-
Coat foam with Bug Bond Lite for durability.
