Boats & Equipment

Over the years, I've had the opportunity to ride on countless boats and fish a wide array of equipment.  With that knowledge in hand, I have rigged out my guide service with customized boats and equipment to meet the demands of fly and light tackle fishing on the Chesapeake Bay of Virginia.

The Bay Boat - Triton 240 LTS Pro

I fished from one of the first "bay boats" on the Chesapeake over 20yrs ago.  Since that time, the bay boat design has grown in popularity and proven itself as the perfect setup for shallow water fishing in the region.   My 24ft Triton is a Cadillac of a bay boat.  Large and stable with a sharp bow entry, this rig is a shallow water fishing machine while still maintaining the ability to handle the Chesapeake Bay chop better than about any boat in its class.  The spacious and clutter free layout with raised bow and stern casting decks is fantastic for guiding guests.  From 100 gallons of livewell space to the Power-Pole Blade shallow water anchor, this boat is fully customized to provide fly and light tackle anglers with the best opportunity to catch striped bass, speckled trout and redfish in the shallow water habitat of the lower Chesapeake Bay.

The Tower Boat - Sea Hunt Triton 240

"Tower boats" are the latest rage on the Chesapeake driven by the resurgence of the cobia population over the past decade.  While the popularity of tower boats is somewhat new to the region, the advantages of an elevated steering station were recognized long ago by offshore charter captains on the Outer Banks of North Carolina and shallow water guides of Florida's West Coast.  I consider my customized 24ft Sea Hunt tower boat akin to a 4x4 sport utility vehicle.  The boat's high gunnels and moderately deep vee make open bay fishing safe and comfortable while features like the 112# thrust MinnKota Ulterra trolling motor allow for stealth and maneuverability on the flats.  The full tower with fly-by-wire controls is the real game changer for sight fishing opportunities.  Whether it is chasing cobia cruising the main stem of the bay or red drum in the shallows, this boat can handle about any fly and light tackle fishing opportunity the southern Chesapeake has to offer.
