Fly Fishing for Blue Triggerfish
The Hunt for Blue Gems of the Indo-Pacific!

Insatiable Triggerfish Syndrome (ITS) is a rapidly growing addiction among the saltwater fly fishing community.  A quick browse on social media and you see countless trigger-happy anglers displaying their drug of choice.  Maybe they post a grip-n-grin of an ocean trigger from the Atlantic or the ever-popular moustache and yellow-margin triggers of the Indo-Pacific.  Missing from a thorough Google AI search is a sizable triggerfish species that remains unknown to all but a small tribe of fly anglers – the mythical blue triggerfish of the flats.

Pseudobalistes fuscus is an Indo-Pacific triggerfish species commonly known as yellow-spotted, blue-lined, rippled, or simply the blue triggerfish.  This triggerfish species is uniquely beautiful.  Young juveniles often develop yellow spots that merge into rippled yellow and blue lines during their maturation process.  Adults display seemingly prismatic azure and violet hues.  Blue triggerfish have a wide tropical distribution from East Africa to French Polynesia.  Despite being relatively common throughout most of their range, the affinity of the species for water depths of 30-50m make blue triggerfish an unusual visitor of the flats.
One of the rarest sights in fly fishing is witnessing the long lyretail of a blue trigger flapping in the wind as the fish feeds in the shallows.

I feel extremely fortunate that my exploration into unknown waters of the South Pacific has resulted in the discovery of a fly fishing paradise for blue triggerfish.  Wading anglers can expect numerous daily shots at blue triggers on the flats making this arguably the world's best fly fishing destination for blue triggerfish.  Please consider joining one of my upcoming trips to French Polynesia where I am the first and only guide to provide fly anglers access to this out island fishery.  With more blue triggerfish experience than any fly fisherman on the planet, I am excited to share my knowledge so that you can become an exclusive member of Club Blue!
